These 'foreign' ships are interesting to me - while not a classic lakeboat - they often have interesting liveries. Now, I'm not sure how foreign this thing really is because it appears to be owned/operated by a Canadian forest company! She's heading back to Montreal and should be there around May 2'nd. I photographed it upbound at Sarnia/Port Huron. I'm glad shipping season is back in action - it was a very productive visit to Sarnia over easter weekend. Details on Wigeon (in Metric) note the flag noted on the canfor website differs from AIS. http://www.canfornav.com/en/mv-wigeon.aspx Is this a foreign (salty) or is this a retrofit now captive in the great lakes area? Seems to be 'lakes fitted' per above website??

Ahh, the crown jewel of the great lakes freight fleet in 2017, the Alpena, about to turn between Buoys 1 and 2. What's great about Sarnia is as the ships arrive, you'll have a chance to shoot both sides and often in great light as they turn quite a bit; and my 400mm lens got a good workout! I'm glad to have finally got a steamship on camera, in my years passed I don't think I managed to photograph one. A great looking ship, well maintained, as Neil Young would sing, long may she run.

A first, I crossed the border for a ship.. and I'm glad I did. As soon as I took this shot, Saginaw turned as they were to unload stone at the old CN Rail Ferry Dock,now used by an Aggregates company. Looks like this house keeps handy a pair of binoculars, seen in the window. Ship watchers maybe? On July 2 2017 I managed to shoot about 4 classic Lakeboats - this was an incredibly productive weekend for such and I happened to be in town all weekend visiting Family as usual. More to come!

Two classic Lakeboats from the Lower Lakes fleet layover in Sarnia, Ontario on Winter Layup. Crews performing maintenance on these beauties hopefully mean many more seasons to come - but who's waiting? Get them while you still can.

Built in 1952, this fine looking Interlake Steamship Company specimen is downbound on the St. Clair River passing the homes , which to be frank, only have a view of Chemical plants on the other side in Sarnia. At least the blossoms are out making for a pretty scene.

Algoma Guardian (Front) and Algoma Montrealis (rear) are unloading ore at the Dofasco Dock in Burlington Bay. It has been said that Montrealis may have ran its last load into the Port of Hamilton and may be retired at the end of the shipping season.

One neat thing I've noticed is when ships are on layover ships such as the Saginaw get extra attention, and in this case a fresh coat of paint on starboard side identifier.

Algosteel has just entered the Burlington Bay - with a cargo of Iron Ore from the Labrador iron ore fields likely destined for Arcelor Mittal Dofasco (since US steel was not operating a blast furnace at the time of this photo). The ship is turning to dock at the Steel Mills of Hamilton (Dofasco) shown in the background.

Fednav\'s \"Federal Hunter\" passing under the Burlington Canal Lift Bridge. The Canal was established in 1826 and this bridge was built in 1962, and was built to carry a roadway and railway across it. The road has since been widened to four lanes.
